  1. I missed twitter discussion but some quick thoughts:
    1. Looks like it's been decided that historical movies, war movies, foreign films, and martial arts movies belong in their own separate categories. Guess you have to narrow the field somehow.
    2. Along similar lines, Searchers is a great movie, but I don't think you can include it if you are excluding other Westerns. Ditto Blade Runner and sci-fi.
    3. Nevertheless, I agree with including Aliens, which really is an action movie in a sci-fi setting. I have trouble seeing that for Searchers and Blade Runner, though; those films are interested in a lot more than shooting bad guys.
    4. I agree True Lies is good enough for it to be listed twice.
    5. I love Sneakers, but I would be shocked if Netflix labeled that as an action movie. Other heist movies (The Italian Job) have more action.
    6. Street Fighter and First Strike come to mind as more actiony and less martial artsy than Kill Bill.
    7. Minority Report more sci-fi than action
    8. Behind Enemy Lines strikes me as an action film, but fine to exclude if you don't want to open the door to Black Hawk Down, Lone Survivor, and then Delta Force, Red Dawn, and others that include military personnel.
    9. Only 1 Mad Max film? Why just that one? Similarly, I don't think MI3, 4, and 5 should be excluded if you include MI1 and 2 and all the Bond films. Expendables 2 and 3? Rambo movies? I am pretty confused by listing all the F&F films but not all in these other franchises.
    10. Biggest omissions by far: Commando and Raw Deal. Tip: it might be helpful to google "Arnold Schwarzenegger imdb"
    11. Startling lack of respect for Chuck Norris.
    12. Others: Bullitt, Clear and Present Danger, Invasion USA

  2. Matt:

Excellent feedback and a lot to unpack.

    1. Had to sort something out. War movies seemed like an obvious choice.
    2. Westerns are also out.
    3. Aliens is a dope action movie. From the moment they land on the planet to they the dropship crashes, there isn't a boring moment. Great great movie.
    4. Whoops. Fixed it on my excel sheet. Will be updated soon.
    5. Not much action in Sneakers. Italian Job is closer.
    6. Street Fighter isn't action. First Strike will be in.
    7. You are correct about it being Sci-Fi.
    8. This is a judgment call. I'd say it's more war than action. Ditto for that first group of movies you list here. I'd say Delta Force and Red Dawn are in the spirit of action movies though. Red Dawn is basically Die Hard in a town.
    9. Fixed. Included all those.
    10. Both in.
    11. Norris movies are tough to classify at times and he has many that aren't notable.
    13. Bullit is in. Clear and Present Danger isn't action, but Patriot Games is. There's really one action sequence C+PD (the awesome scene in the street in Columbia). It's more of a political thriller. Patriot Games has at least three action scenes (attack on Royals, attack on his family in Maryland, and the attack on the house). Not so sure on Hunt for Red October, but that doesn't feel action-y. Sum of All Fears can go to hell. I have to ruminate on the Jack Ryan movie with Captain Kirk in it. Invasion USA is in.

You are a hero for your feedback.

    1. 1-10. Agreed on everything, except van Damme's Street Fighter is action but I don't mind excluding on the basis that no one cares about it.
      11. I don't remember much of the Missing in Action films, but I remember this scene:

      12. C&PD has the black ops team in the jungle doing stuff, getting ambushed, then getting rescued by Jack, Clark, and Chavez. Excluding Hunt for Red October is reasonable. Haven't seen the Kirk Jack Ryan.
      13. Others: Saw the Death Wish movies referenced today, but haven't seen them. The Specialist. Kingsman (recent, I haven't seen it), Colombiana, Salt, Haywire, the Navy Seals movie with Charlie Sheen, the Navy Seals movie with the real Seals.
      14. I'd include Raiders, just because it doesn't neatly fit into another category and it's tremendous. Similar films: King Solomon's Mines, Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile, Tomb Raider
