Ritz Carlton Orlando/Marriot

Below are pictures of the Ritz Carlton Resort in Orlando.  The room was a complimentary upgrade.  If we were paying cash it would have been $800/night (!).  I also have a few pics of the pool area, breakfast, and the adjoining Marriot.

Beach Club Villas Photo Report

View from Beach Club Villa Room

Here is the view from the porch.  The road that you see here is Epcot Resorts Boulevard.  The Boardwalk would be to the right here and Beach Club Resort entrance to the left.

Room Interior

The couch is behind the photographer here.  The room is a very good side, but the picture tells the story here:  older room in desperate need of a freshening.

Pattern is so nice they put it on the drapes!

New Room Only Discounts

Now just $800/night!!!

Check out this link to the Disney website which offers between 20-35% off the rack rate at rooms for a lot of nights between November 1st and the end of February.

I am a big fan of room only discounts, as the hotel cost has the biggest impact on the total cost of my trip to the World (admittedly this is not the same for everyone).

Free Wi-Fi is Here

It is long overdue, but Disney is finally offering free in room wi-fi at their deluxe and vacation club resort properties.  You can look here for a complete rundown of places that will have it on your next trip.  It also appears as if more hotels/resorts will be added in the near future.

I have never paid the $9.99/night for high speed internet access at The World, but never begrudged them charging for it.  It seems as if quite a few so-called full service hotels still charge for internet access.  Marriott, for example, gives guest free access at their Courtyard by Marriott brand because it caters to business travelers, but nonetheless charges at their full service Marriott Hotel and Resorts.  So this is a nice addition.

The best part of this is that the change appears to be permanent.  I will personally reconsider my "no laptop policy' on the next trip, even if it just to post pictures and keep in touch with work and my favorite site.

A few additional points worth noting to get a better grasp on the actual value of this addition:

1.  DVC members, when staying using DVC points, already received free wired internet access during their stay.

2. The Swan and Dolphin include wired internet access as part of their nightly resort fee of $10.

More Restaurants Require Prepay

Good Tables Still Available at Coral Reef

The folks at WDW Magic have compiled an organized list of the restaurants that will soon require a credit card for booking an ADR. If you don't cancel a day in advance, a $10 cancellation fee will be assessed. This new procedure will be effective on October 26th.

Of particular note are MMOM breakfast favorites Crystal Palace and Tusker House and lunch/dinner favorite Le Cellier. The rest are all of the "Signature Dining" places as well as many of the character meals.

Disney has long made a big to-do about how ADRs are not, in fact, reservations at all, just a guarantee that you will be given priority over any walk -in diner.

Will this expanded system guarantee you a table like a normal reservation? Will this change our normal "booking" habits?

I imagine this will come up in our next episode, so stay tuned.

Note: Russ' beloved Victoria and Albert will require a $25 deposit.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Refurb

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be undergoing a pretty lengthy refurb from early January 2010 through the end of March 2012. There will likely be some track improvements, along with some repairs made to some of the smaller "effects" that have been inoperable for some time.

Episode 19 -- Jungle Juiced

Sly Stallone preparing Planet Hollywood for its Avatar re-theme
Tough week here, kiddies.  In an effort to get through this quick, the Boys do the entire Resort/Downtown Disney Bracket in one, unfortunate go.  Kip and Dutch turn on each other when discussing Russ' phone memory.  The low point is when Kip declares this:  "The worst episode ever."  In the words of Harvey Dent, it is always darkest before dawn.  Well, it's pretty dark out.
